Maxine F. Murray

GRAND JUNCTION — Maxine Fay Murray, Grand Junction resident, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at her home. She was 80 years old. Maxine was born on June 29, 1928 to Ernest A. Hinton and Bernice B. Brown Hinton in Montrose, Colo. Her twin sister, Delphine, died in childhood. She graduated from Montrose County High School.

She married Larry Riley Murray in 1946. They had four sons: Spence, Kent, Dean and Arlen. Maxine retired from the Grand Junction Regional Center as a phone operator and secretary. Her retirement years were spent as a CNA, working locally in assisted living facilities and in home care. She enjoyed hiking, fishing, hunting, reading and having lunch with the secretaries, family and friends. Her kind and generous spirit will be missed.

Survivors include sons, Spence and wife Georgia of Abilene, Kan., Kent and wife Sandra of Whitewater, Dean and wife Janice of Grand Junction, Arlen of Whitewater; and a sister, Marcia Aguilar of San Antonio, Texas. Maxine is further survived by 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents; and sisters, Delphine Hinton, Margorine Hinton and Lorene Smith. A viewing was held at Snell-McLean Funeral Home in Palisade on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, from 3 to 5 p.m. The funeral was held on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at New Horizons Foursquare Church at 2 p.m. Contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado in Maxine’s memory.
