MONTROSE — John Harry Grossjan passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 at Montrose Memorial Hospital at the age of 79. John was born Sept. 4, 1929 to Eric and Rose (Kehl) Grossjan in Eisenach, Germany. He spent his childhood and received his education in Germany. John moved from Germany to California in 1956 and became a United States citizen and still continued his education as a Bio-chemical Engineer. He met and married Lucy E. Kornal July 7, 1965 in Venice, Calif. John and Lucy relocated to Montrose, Colo. 12 years ago, making Montrose their home until John’s time of death. He was a member of the Woodworker’s Association and enjoyed refinishing antiques for family and friends. John was a private pilot for many years and enjoyed flying as a hobby in his younger years. He played the organ at the Senior Citizen Center and enjoyed meeting new people and joking with friends.
Survivors include his wife Lucy, of the family home in Montrose; three sons, Ron Grossjan (Karen) of Chester, Calif., Wayne Grossjan (Julie) of Philomath, Ore., Michael Grossjan of Sacramento, Calif; grandchildren, Nicole, Bradley, Evan, Luke, Alina, Jackson, Kennon and Sarena; one sister, Gila Schmitz (Richard). John was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sharing Ministries, in memory of John Grossjan, P.O. Box 1883, Montrose, CO 81402 or San Juan Cancer Center, in memory of John Grossjan, 600 S. 5th St., Montrose, CO 81401.
