Is Anyone Hiring? Unemployed Local
January on the western slope is never an easy time for business owners or job seekers. The brief respite during Christmas often leaves people feeling let down, especially economically. Often times, people get carried away by the wonder of the holiday season and get excessive with staffing as well as supplies. Then January happens.
I suppose the whole country is being severely affected by this difficult time. The whole world, perhaps. It's times lke these that really makes one appreciate everything that they have. People of this generation have a very big connundrum. Our parents were brought up on the American dream; on the belief that everything and anything could be possible because you lived in the land of the free. I believe that this is still possible, but it has become much harder to obtain.
I pray that Obama can keep his promises, because this country has many challenges awaiting it. We have got to decide whether or not to continue down this path of self-destruction. Capitilism has given us such a wonderful false sense of security for so long. But the gravy train has hit a dead end. It's time for America and its citizens to take responsibility and demand more.
We have been complacent for far too long. We have watched the disolve of the middle class, we have allowed our leaders and politicians to become corrupt liars. We have been scammed out of our free-will. Scammed by the media, barraged by images telling us we're not good enough unless we buy buy buy. I miss communities. I missneighbors that would never hesitate to welcome you to the neighborhood, maybe even bake you cookies.
I hope you can see it too. I hope you can feel the difference when you go into public. People are not as friendly. They are more guarded. Our worlds are becoming smaller and smaller. They've shrank from global concern to national concern, to community concerns, to family concerns. There isn't enough room in people's hearts anymore.
