Sharon ‘Sheri’ D. Hillier March 24, 1957 — Feb. 5, 2009 MONTROSE — Sheri lost her valiant six month battle with cancer passing away Feb. 5, 2009, at Presbyterian-St. Lukes Medical Center in Denver, Colo. with her loving family gathered at her bedside. As the family stood by her, we joined hands while her husband, Rick, read a poem he had written as a tribute to his beautiful wife, and he presented a single rose to each family member as the memories of Sheri were evident through the tears of remembrance. A loving song filled the room bringing closure to Sheri’s life as we silently and so proudly stood by her. Sheri was a very nurturing caregiver. Since childhood her adoration for people and animals, the latter being of all shapes and sizes, consumed most of the years of her life. If there was a giving need, she responded with her physical labor always accompanied with her advisory skills. Sheri always found time to volunteer during her daily work schedules. A Friendship Quilters projects volunteer, helping with some of the Lions Club projects and so many more moments of providing and sharing to help where she could was an important part of who our Sheri was. Sheri and her husband moved to Montrose in 2000 leaving Emporia, Kan. and their printing business. Local employment was mostly through the care of animals. Along with her husband and work partner, she stayed involved with many creative avenues to provide for their fishing and camping outings. Sheri will be remembered for her zest for life and her loving spirit. Family members blessed to have shared in Sheri’s life are her loving husband of nearly 30 years, Rick of Montrose, Colo.; daughter, Tina (Mark) Steinwender of Georgia; mother, Sue (Jerry) Peters of Montrose, Colo.; father, Richard (Barb) Dodson of Fall River, Kan.; best friend, Sue Howell of Montrose, Colo.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Sheri is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Robert and Verna Painter and paternal grandparents, Frank and Bessie Dodson. A Celebration of Life in loving memory of Sheri’s life will be held on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at the Lions Clubhouse on North Nevada and 7th St., from 10 a.m. to noon. Contributions in memory of Sharon ‘Sheri’ Hillier can be sent to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center of Denver, 1800 Williams St., Suite 300, Denver, CO 80218. Cremation has taken place and arrangements were under the direction of DeWitt and Tabler Funeral Home of Denver. “I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God.” – Job 19:25-26
