Harry Norman Hughes Dec. 11, 1934 — Feb. 12, 2009 MONTROSE — Longtime resident of Montrose, Harry Hughes, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 12, 2009 after a brave fight with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and pastor at the time of his passing. Harry was born on Dec. 11, 1934 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Henry John Hughes and Lillian Nora (Scott) Hughes. He grew up in Rainy River, Ontario, Canada, where he attended school. He married the love of his life, Beverly Berry, whom he had known since he was 12, on June 15, 1956 in Rainy River. While in Canada, Harry worked for the railroad as a signal maintainer. In 1961, Harry and Beverly, along with their two children, Allan and Judy, moved to Harlingen, Texas where he worked as a mechanic. He was a hard worker and held several jobs, including the telephone company, the railroad and NASA. They had two more children, Kenny and Kim. They moved to Salida, Colo. where he began his career in the cable TV industry. This job transferred the family to Vernal, Utah, Glenwood Springs, Colo., and, in 1977, to Montrose as a manager. After retiring from the cable company, he worked part-time as a janitor for the United Methodist Church until he was no longer able to work after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Harry enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing bluegrass music. He was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and was a proud member of Victory Baptist Church. Harry loved his family and will be so dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly Hughes of Montrose; his son, Harry Allan Hughes of Denver; and his daughters, Judy (Alan) Smith of Ogden, Utah, and Kim (Chuck) Brown of Montrose. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Aimee Smith, and Jeff, Andrew and Brady Brown. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lillian Hughes; and his infant son, Kenny Hughes.
