Daisy Elizabeth Taylor

MONTROSE — Daisy Elizabeth Taylor, age 91, passed away at home on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009. 

Daisy was born in Commerce, Okla. on Dec. 28, 1917 to Earnest and Ida Ellen (Garren) McCombs. The family moved to Stella, Mo. before moving to the Coal Creek area of Montrose. Daisy graduated from high school in Montrose, and she went on to college at Western State in Gunnison and earned her bachelor’s degree. She followed that by attending Fresno State College and earned her master’s degree in education.

Daisy lived throughout her life in many places, Leonard, Colo. and Nucla, Colo., and also spent time in Boron, Calif., Colorado Springs, Colo., Fort Riley, Kan. and Limon, Ohio. Daisy met Howard Taylor and they married on July 2, 1945 in Muskagee, Okla. Daisy was a member of the California Teachers Association (CTA) and Christ’s Church of The Valley. Daisy enjoyed church activities and spent time mentoring the youth during Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed babysitting, caring for her chickens and gardening.

Daisy is survived by her husband, Howard Taylor; and her son, Marvin Taylor; as well as three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Daisy was preceded in death by her brother, Leroy McCombs; her sisters, Maxine Woods, Mary Fewell and Mona Cooper.

A memorial service in honor and celebration of Daisy’s life will be officiated by Pastor Gary Hodges on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at 2 p.m., at Valley Lawn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in Daisy’s honor may be made to Hospice.
