BROKEN BOW, Neb. — Nelson Lorrell “Brownie” Brown, 77, died March 1, 2009, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow, Neb.

Nelson Lorrell was born Sept. 16, 1931 at Fairfield to Melton and Helga (Sorensen) Brown. He attended country public school and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1948.
He worked on the railroad in Fairfield as a telegrapher with the Union Pacific Railroad. On Sept. 23, 1950, he joined the Air Force and served for four years.
He married Margie Johansen in 1950 at her home in Hastings. They were divorced in 1976.
He was stationed in London during the Korean War in the communication department. He was honorably discharged from the service Sept. 22, 1954. He returned to working for the railroad and attended Hastings College.
Most of his following years were spent being a salesman and working on ranches in Colorado and Oklahoma. In the 1980s, he moved to Broken Bow. He owned TN Biofeeds and worked at the ASCS office.
He married Theresa Hartman in 1982 in Oklahoma. They were divorced in 2008.
Nelson was a member of the Quarter Horse Association, Sheriff’s Posse in Montrose, Colo., VA Legion and Custer County Agriculture Society. He was a great supporter of the Custer County Fair and was a member of the racing board at the time Broken Bow held horse races.
Nelson’s real love was talking and drinking coffee. His one love was riding and being around horses. He was a friend to all he met.
Nelson is survived by his children, Julie (Earl) Noetzelman of Nucla, Colo., Leia Natasha Morehart of Omaha, Neb., Rodney (Sharon) Brown of Ansley, Neb. and Melton (Heather) Brown of Montrose, Colo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Leona (Gene) Williams of Marana, Ariz., Marvel (Wayne) Mills of Broken Bow, Neb., Betty (Charles) Church of The Villages, Fla. and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the Jennie M. Melham Foundation in Nelson’s name.
