MONTROSE-Longtime Montrose resident, Christopher M. Vigil, age 61, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital on Wednesday, March 11, 2009.
Chris was born June 3, 1947 to John and Mary (Muniz) Vigil in Denver, Colo. Chris graduated from high school in Trinidad, Colo. and then went on to serve his country in the United States Navy and received the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and the Navy Unit Commendation Medal.

Chris’ greatest joy was giving a helping hand and leaves an imprint on all those he touched. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being with his family. Those grateful to have shared Chris’ life are his wife Martha Vigil of the family home in Montrose; daughters, Jamie (Dominic) DiVello, Pueblo, Colo.; Yvette Vigil (Mike Garcia); Mesa, Ariz.; Regina (John) Archuleta, Grand Junction, Colo.; and son Christopher (Peaches) Vigil, Trinidad. He is also survived by brothers, Ron (Stella) Vigil, Grand Junction; Charles (Debbie) Vigil, Denver; Randy Vigil, Denver, and sisters, Diane (Manuel) Pacheco; Lori Vigil, and Yvonne Vigil, all of Denver. Also to share his life were his 15 grandchildren that were the light of his life.
He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, father, John Vigil, and brother, John Vigil, Jr.
A visitation for family and friends will take place Monday, March 16, 2009 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, 2201 S. Townsend Ave. A Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Ben Garate at Calvary Chapel on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. and Interment will follow at the Veterans Cemetery in Grand Junction. Valley Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of the care and arrangements for Chris and his family, 505 S. 2nd St., Montrose, CO (970) 249-4400.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up in the name of The Chris Vigil Memorial Fund at the NuVista Credit Union, 2711 Commercial Way, Montrose, CO.
