Paul E. Dickerson Jr. July 13, 1934 — March 7, 2009 MONTROSE — Paul E. Dickerson, a resident of Spring Creek Chalet in Montrose, Colo., passed away peacefully early March 7, 2009. He was surrounded by his loved ones. Born and raised in Pea Green, Colo. to Paul E. Dickerson Sr. and Gertrude (Lane) Dickerson, Paul (Dick) spent his years in Pea Green until graduation from Olathe High School In 1952. Furthering his education at Western State College, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and master’s degree in English. It was while at Western State that Paul met Ann Leigh Foster. They were married in 1954. Paul and Ann moved to Montrose where he became a teacher. After his first year of teaching, he was called to serve his country. The young couple moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. After two years in the United States Army, Paul and Ann moved back to Montrose to resume his teaching career. Paul was a lifelong educator, touching many, many lives while sharing his passion for knowledge and learning. He was a strong advocate for public education. Paul was a founding member of the Magic Circle Players. He believed in the amazing capacity of theatre to bond and create community. He was a favorite actor, director and producer of plays throughout the years at Magic Circle. He deeply believed in supporting arts in the community. In 2003, he and Meredyth Dickerson were awarded the Lifetime Appreciation Award from MCP. Paul married Meredyth Campbell in 1978. They were blessed with a long and adventurous union. Paul had a great many accomplishments in his life but by far his greatest was his family. He loved his children and grandchildren with all of his heart and soul and they returned his love equally. He is survived by his wife, Meredyth C. Dickerson of Montrose; children, Paul (a.k.a.Tom) of Carbondale, Carol of Grand Junction, Staci of Carbondale and Jon Eric (Jessica) of Montrose; grandchildren, Christopher, LuAnn, Sara and Hayden of Montrose; his sister, Phyllis and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by sisters, Elaine, Dorothy and Marjorie; wife, Ann; and grandson, Tyler. There will be a celebration of Paul’s life Sunday, March 22, at 1 p.m., at the Magic Circle Players Theatre in Montrose. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Magic Circle Players.
