OLATHE — Steven Lynn Payton, 52, of Olathe died of a heart attack on March 17, 2009. Steve was born to Kenneth and Mary Payton on Oct. 18, 1956 in Hobart, Okla. Steve was raised in Oklahoma City in the middle of his sisters, Cheryl and Janice. Steve graduated from US Grant High School in 1974. Steve loved to travel and spent many years traveling all over the United States going to church camps and church events, and living in different places with family and friends, from California to Alabama.

Steve married Susan Lindsey of Olathe on July 26, 1986. They were greatly blessed with three children: Stephanie (Princess), Shane (Bubba) and Savanna (Blue Eyed Angel). Steve, Sue and Stephanie moved to Colorado to live in the bottom of the Black Canyon where Steve was the gatekeeper for Uncompahgre Valley Water Users. After three years in the canyon, the family moved to Olathe, Colo. where Steve worked on the crew for the UVWUA until 1997 when Steve went to work for Montrose County Road and Bridge, where he worked until he was hurt and then spent the last four years recuperating from many surgeries with his four-legged baby, Bella.

Steve loved the Colorado outdoors whether it was hunting or Mackinaw fishing or just being in the mountains. Steve loved playing ball, football in the boulevard and especially hardball and then softball. Steve played for over 40 years and then loved watching his kids play.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Payton; step-father, Curtis Campbell; nephew, Oscar Lee Johnson; brother-in-law, Phil Satterlee; and father-in-law, Bill (Pop) Lindsey.

Survivors blessed to share Steve’s life are: his wife, Susan Payton of Olathe; his children, Stephanie and Jeremy Easter,  Savanna and Trevor Bellew of Olathe, Colo. and Shane and Courtney (Jones) Payton of Vici, Okla.; his mother, Mary Campbell of Oklahoma City; sisters, Cheryl and Oscar Johnson of Oklahoma City and Janice and Dave Timbrook of Welston, Okla.; niece, Christi and Johnathan, Zaine and Zeth Dodd, of Tulsa Okla.; nephews, Casey, Lisa and Philip Satterlee of Edmond, Okla. and Dillon Timbrook of Welston, Okla.; mother-in-law, Nora Lindsey of Olathe, Colo.; sister, Peggy Lindsey, Kayla and Danny Tomaske of Ouray, Colo. and sister, Julie and Ryan Taylor and Blake Bosch of Henryetta, Okla.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Delta Taylor Funeral Service Chapel, with interment in the Olathe Cemetery, Olathe, Colo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to help the family purchase a headstone.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
