Loraine Agnes Johnson

MONTROSE — Loraine Agnes Johnson, 51, of Montrose, Colo., passed away Saturday afternoon, April 11, 2009, at the San Juan Living Center. Born in Yuba City Calif., she was the daughter of Robert Neil and Nelouise “Nellie” Marie Johnson.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Nelouise “Nellie” Johnson and her father, Robert Neil Johnson. She is survived by two sisters, Lyndia James of Sacramento Calif. and Cyndi Duggins of Yuba City Calif.

Loraine began her singing career in the first grade and learned to play the piano.  She took up clarinet in the fourth grade and in high school added the tenor saxophone. She continued to sing as well as teach piano and assist the junior high school music director and the high school choir director. She graduated from Yuba City High School in 1976. She attended San Jose State University on a full music scholarship. She worked as a Support Analyst for Apple Computer for many years in Cupertino, Calif. During these years, Loraine continued to sing, volunteering at the local hospital to sing to coma patients, in church and at conference events as a featured soloist. She and her mother moved to Rohnert Park and opened a travel agency and enjoyed taking cruises with their customers. They moved to Montrose in 2000.

Her last public performance was in 2005 at a testimonial concert at the Montrose Pavilion where she shared her life story, her faith and her inspirational music. She spent her final years under the loving care of her partner, Daniel Weis, who unexpectedly passed away a few weeks earlier. Loraine was a devout Christian and had many miracles happen to her during her life.  She was a member of the Community for Spiritual Awareness. 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 1, at 11 a.m., at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel.
