On April 23, DeJulio was one of eight Colorado child care providers honored at the Governor's Mansion for the "First Colorado Child Care Provider Awards," which also resulted in a feature on the popular Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) television show "A Place Of Our Own."
DeJulio said she was excited to learn she had won.

DeJulio has always had a passion for taking care of children —earning her teaching degree in college. While her mother helped take care of her son after he was born so she could go back to work, her mother suffered a heart attack after the birth of her daughter a few years later and was unable to assist her. DeJulio said having to go back to work and put her children in daycare was painful and inspired her to do something.
"It honestly broke my heart to have to put them in a daycare service," DeJulio said. "But we had to do it at the time."
DeJulio decided to make a career change by leaving her job at Wells Fargo and putting her teaching degree to good use by getting her daycare license.
In 2006, she opened her own daycare and preschool, and currently has nine children enrolled along with her own daugther. DeJulio said she tries to use "out of the box" activities to enhance her students' learning experience.
As part of her award, DeJulio and her husband Angelo, were brought to Denver and given a two-night stay at Browns Palace Hotel downtown. She and her husband along with the other winners were also welcomed to a tour of the governor's mansion and a lunchon before the award presentation.
DeJulio said the experience was great and something she would never forget.
