MONTROSE — Beverly Joyce Dyrness went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, May 1, 2009 after battling heart disease and dementia. She passed away at her home at Sunrise Creek Assisted Living Center in Montrose, Colo. Beverly was born on October 19, 1925 in Oak Park, Ill., the only child of Reuben and Eleanor (Hansen) Lynn. Beverly spent her childhood in Chicago, Ill. where she was an active member or Salem Evangelical Free Church. It was there that Beverly came to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and where she would later be married.  After graduation from William Taft High School in Chicago, Beverly attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. Upon his return from the Navy at the end of World War II, Calvin Theodore Dyrness and Beverly were married on June 1, 1946. The couple resided and raised two daughters in Park Ridge, Ill. where they attended South Park Church. While living in Park Ridge, a Chicago suburb, Beverly worked part time for 31 years as a secretary at the Corporate Headquarters of Mid-Continent Coal and Coke Company in Chicago’s “Loop.” It was this experience that would eventually lead them to settle near Mid-Continent’s coal mines which at the time were in Redstone, Colo. In 1978, Beverly and Calvin retired and relocated to Glenwood Springs, Colo., where she attended Mountain View Baptist Church. Finally, in 1987, they moved to Montrose, Colo. which is where Calvin died on Dec. 18, 1995. Many local residents will remember Beverly’s smiling face from her days working part time at Allison’s, Conrad’s, Heidi’s and Country Peddler. Others will recall seeing her taking walks along Sunnyside on nice afternoons. In Montrose, Beverly attended First Presbyterian Church for over 20 years.

Beverly is survived by two daughters, Gayle Krzemien of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Debbie and husband Tom Abbott of Montrose. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years, Calvin Theodore Dyrness, and Grace Marilyn Gowman, her cousin, though they were sisters in spirit. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 4, 2009, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the chapel at Crippin Funeral Home. Funeral services to honor the life of Beverly Dyrness will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. The service will conclude at the chapel. At Beverly’s request, cremation will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, in memory of Beverly Dyrness, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO.  81402. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colo.
