Hueston M. “Hoot” Davis

May 14, 1940 - May 7, 2009

Hueston Morris “Hoot” Davis, age 68 of Austin, Colo. passed away Thursday afternoon May 7, 2009 at Horizons Health Care Center in Eckert, Colo. Hoot was born May 14, 1940 to Woodrow Morris and Bessie May (Wright) Davis in Boley, Okla. Davis. At a young age, Hoot’s family moved to Montrose, where he received his education.  Hoot served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961. He was a Torpedo Retriever, Seaman and drove PT Boats. Hoot married Eunice Lorene Kendall on March 21, 1959 in Upland, Calif. and had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March and she survives. He worked as a logger and mechanic for many years along with assisting his stepfather, Frank Deti Die Maker, for seven and a half years at National Lock Division in Rockford, Ill. Hoot worked as an underground coal miner and for U.S. Steel Coal Mine in Paonia for 17 years. He and Eunice moved to Montrose in 1986, and worked for Abel’s Ace Hardware for two and a half years then they relocated to Austin, in 2005 where he made his home until his time of death. He was employed for Western Skyways in Montrose, then in Austin for a total ten years, until he became too ill to work. Hoot loved spending time with his family, riding his four-wheeler in the mountains with his sons and friends. He enjoyed snowmobiling, traveling and dearly loved NASCAR racing.

Hoot is survived by his loving wife, Eunice of Austin, Colo; four sons, Anthony Ray Davis, Stanley Morris Davis of Austin, Colo., Timothy Eugene Davis, Terry Joe Davis all of Austin, Colo; his beloved and treasured granddaughter, Jessica Ann Davis-Knoll-Frigetto, and her husband, Derek of Montrose two grandsons, Dylan and Colby Romines of Delaware; daughter-in-law, Jennie Knoll and her husband Stan of Ridgway, Colo; sister, Judie Clifford and her husband, Ron of Montrose, Colo; brother, Eugene Davis and wife Alice of Montrose, four half-brothers, Kenneth, Dan, Mike and Scott Davis and their family of Rockford, Ill; Uncle Wally Wright of Calif; Aunt, Nell Odlum of Penn; numerous nieces and nephews. Hoot was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Deti, Stepfather, Frank Deti, his father, Morris David, brother, Raymond and sister Sandy. At Hoot’s request, cremation has preceded the service. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 11:30 A.M. at Mesa View Cemetery in Delta, Colo. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose.
