Most of us are unaware of whats going on with our food source. Most all food from stores is highly processed, preserved and modified geneticaly. Companies like Monsanto have inserted genes in the dna structure of plants like corn that allow them to control and dominate seed soruces. One gene in particular is called the terminator gene. This gene kicks in just prior to plant maturing and makes the plant sterile, so therefore the seed cannot be replanted, forcing farmers to purchase seeds yearly, not  replating seeds like they have for thousands of years.. When the pollen drifts to other non modified corn it too becomes sterile, thus eliminating the competition for seed sales, complete control.

The modification allows the spray Round up to be applied that kills weeds but not the corn, the  energy in the molucluar structure is not effected by the spray, its not broke down by the chemical spray, so the plant does not die, the energy remains, so when food enters the gut of livestock and humans that energy is also not available, the spray cant break thru, neither can natural stomach acids to properly digest, so we do not get the energy need to process and get the  available nutrition. It also has been proven crop yeilds are failing due to mutations in the genes which cannot be controled once they start mutating, who knows what could happen.

The terminator gene also has been proven to cause fertility problems in mice after several generations, reproductive organs as well as other tissues and organs are adversaly effected.

The USDA approved GMOs without full research in favor of big ag., whos main intrest is profit and control of what we eat and where and who  our food comes from.

Monsanto  Has also sued and prevaled when there pollen contaminated non modified crops, they have copyrighted the genes and when thoses genes were found by illegal means, tresspassing to obtain samples,  the govt sided with  Monsanto and now most are being forced into buying modified seed to avoid fines and presecution.

So for me I grow my own as much as possible, so i know whats up, we  support other  local sustainable organic farms, dont buy much from stores, educate myself and others to the value of real foods that prevent and cure and taste amazing. I drink raw goats milk over 1 gallon daily, this amazing very tasty whole real food is a blessing, i rarely get colds or flu, but its illegal to sell to others and fda is against raw milk in favor of the dairy industry who profits from the processing, which after there done with the milk its dead food, and actualy bad for you, and dont go with the flow, educate yourself to the benifits of whole real organic local foods, youll feel better, look better, and be much better off avoiding modified processed preserved foods the factory farms prouce..peaceoutchickenman

" Miss Westcoast...Stay on the Westcoast. We are very organically minded here in Montrose and Delta counties. We do not need your negitivity. Educating and sharing info. on the benifits of real food is a far better way to get the point across than name calling and being judgemental. We all can disagree and go back and forth, have some fun exchanges, but screaming like that wont help the cause... Peaceoutchickenman "

" Real Farmer... Wish you were here for lunch today. We cooked a grass fed Tbone steak 3 inches thick over oak wood. It was tender, juicy and the most beautiful color imaginable. No comparsion to feed lot fed corn forced beef. If properly raised grass fed beef and chicken are the best foods on earth. We are blessed to have this alternative nutritional food in our backyard. If you ever get the chance and are lucky enough to know someone who raises real beef you will be suprized "

Thats the dumbest thing Ive ever read.
How do you know where your soy is coming from and if its from a gmo crop or not? "

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER? JUST TOO BAD MONTROSE IS GOVERNED BY IDIOTS TRUE IDIOTS AND THATS WHY I COULDNT BE PAID TO LIVE IN SUCH A BACK-SS TOWN. WANT TO MAK A CHANGE U MUST BE AMONGST YOUR OWN KIND, CAUSE ITS THE IDIOT'S IGNORANCE THAT GETS IN THE WAY. "

" 'traditional farming techniques' are also a problem. They are why we 'need' GMO and sprays. Companies are so interested in profit they sacrifice long term and OUR heath.

seeds aren't the only thing being impacted by this farming technique. "

" Thats interesting. I work for USDA.
Monsanto doesnt sell seed. They are just a company that companies purchase the rights to use their products in their own seed. "

chickenman wrote on May 28, 2009 7:19 AM:

" If you all wish to see whats really up with Monsanto, theres a DVD called the World According to Monsanto, that tells a lot about what this multi national corpration is really up to. Our USDA is a corrupt agency filled with ex Monsanto execs. the fix is in, and we pay with modified feeds, that kill off the competition, we get sick from their crap, take chemeds that cant heal, so the chemed folks amd Monsanto win, we lose Shame "

Brad wrote on May 28, 2009 7:14 AM:

" About 95% of the crops on our 5000 acres are GMO and others around us have reused seed after harvest and it has grown fine so I am not real sure on this suppposed terminator gene.
If you do non gmo you will have to spray more. GUARANTEED. The GMO in most corn is for certain insects. EX rootworm, corn borer, etc. If the plant is not resistant to these you will be spraying for those insects most years.
The quality will be similar in non gmo and you are correct that non gmo is cheaper to buy seed. "

Brad wrote on May 28, 2009 7:13 AM:

" Yes we feed a couple hundred head of fat calves in the midwest with GMO corn and regular corn. There isnt a difference in cattle. As far as chickens I dont know.
Where do you get this info on the terminator gene. "

chickenman wrote on May 27, 2009 10:41 PM:

" Hey Brad, Have you fed GM feed? Egg production decreases, mortality increases, I know I farm, seen it myself. Most all corn localy is GMO
The farmer I know who is non gmo states his yeild is just as good without spray, cheaper to produce, and the quality is much better.
So tell me if you think something with a terminator gene is safe, comming from Monsanto who brought us PCBS, Agent Orange, Napalm, BGH,they support factory farms, anitiboitics over prevention, just to name a few of their wonderful creations.... Peaceoutchickenman "

" Is very important in this time of government control. This is all true, and before we know if this bill in Congress passess, our own local farmers whom we greet every Saturday at the Farmers Market, will be forced to spend over $500,000 to "update to government required" equipment, fertilizers, and seeds~~For those that cant afford to, well Bye Bye organic farming which is what the government wants--total control. Be smart, Be informed, Be prepared "

Brad wrote on May 27, 2009 9:18 AM:

" Sounds like information picked by someone that isnt informed.
Especially the fact that yields are decreasing.
The majority of the GMOs are to reduce the use of pesticides which the greenies fight so strongly against. "

" Great article. I've been eating whole food for a long time. For those of you wanting more info read 'The omnivore's dilemma.' ConAgra and Archer daniels Midland are equal or worse than the one mentioned by chickenman.

    Peace "

" Good info., chickenman, most dont realize whats happening, nor do they care. Funny, seems most would rather get sick, than try to get well, than prevent before the fact EDDDD "

" Don't you love how the big company can sue, but they don't get fined for NOT planting appropriate plant barrier around the fields to keep the pollen contained.

They are slowly destroying our ability to grow what we want to eat. "
