MONTROSE — County officials say a conference attended earlier this month was money well spent and will benefit Montrose.

Commissioners David White, Gary Ellis and Ron Henderson attended the Colorado Counties Inc. summer meeting in Vail, at the Vail Cascade, June 8-10.

County Manager Joe Kerby and Public Affairs Director Ana Mostaccero attended with them, while Health and Human Services Director Peg Mewes and Environmental Health Manager Richard Thompson joined the conference for only one day.

Registration for the conference was $335 per person, including meals. Lodging was $100 per person, per day.

Mostaccero and Mewes were session presenters. Thompson did not stay in the hotel.

The attendees carpooled in private vehicles, with the exception of one county vehicle that was taken.

The county estimates it spent $3,445 —  less than the $5,359 reported spent by the city of Montrose, which took heat recently for sending seven people to the Colorado Municipal League conference, also held in Vail. (The city’s initial estimate was around $3,800; the figure was updated to include meals and other miscellaneous expenses).

" Come on people! Why has NO mention been made regarding the recent Colorado Association of Sheriff's conference that was held in little ole' Mo-Town? That conference brought in a decent chunk of change for our local area businesses... and saved us money! "

" Sorry, to get a complete story you need to buy the print or the E edition of the Daily Press. Sorta like being held hostage.
Most of the articles you can get from other medias.
MDP not likely to win awards on half of every article that pertains to the local area. "

" What exactly was the adgenda of this confefence? May I request the Press print a complete story on this so we readers can form an opinion based on fact and not just enjoin a riot? Please print a complete story. A blind man has a hard time describing an elephant. "
