Kelso to serve as Olathe mayor until board meeting

MONTROSE — Olathe Mayor Pro-Tem Dan Kelso will fill in as mayor until the board of trustees meets July 13 following Don Perkins’ resignation last week.

“When we don’t have a mayor, I’m acting mayor,” Kelso said.

At the July 13 meeting, the board will appoint a new mayor. Traditionally, the mayor pro-tem is appointed to the position.

Kelso said if the board appoints him, he would most likely accept the mayoral seat.

The new mayor will hold the position until the April election.

If Kelso is promoted to mayor like expected, the board will then appoint a new mayor pro-tem from among the board.

Next, the trustees will collect interest indicators from the community to fill the vacant board seat because, as a statutory town, the board must always have a mayor and six trustees.
