Thank you for the outstanding article about mental illness among teens; even listing the symptoms. That will be so helpful to parents who wonder what on earth is going on with their teen who sleeps long hours, then goes into chaotic, frantic activity and stays up all night. BiPolar illness is so common. Articles like these will help erase the stigma attached to mental illness. Good job!

You’re correct. They’re written by doctors on behalf of drug companies. I took the one they gave my son for Autism. Guess what!? I’m severely Autistic! Then the doctor laughed and said everyone who takes it scores as “Autistic!” Needless to say, neither my son nor I (nor our doctor) believed the results. Yet, doctors around the country are using that test, believing the results and doping kids up on a daily basis! Tragic! "

Actually, I do know a family member with it (a sister). And so I DO KNOW first-hand that this is a rare disorder that too many people claim to have. Just because someone is moody does not mean they are bipolar. Unfortunately too many people want to diagnose reality with a label. Guess what EVERYONE is moody. It's called "life." And just like with ADD and Autism, it’s in vogue to say you suffer from it. "

UNLESS YOU OR A LOVED HAS IT YOU WILL NOT KNOW HOW HORRIBLE IT IS. MOST PEOPLE WOULD GIVE ANYTHING NOT TO HAVE IT! NO ONE SAYS THAT CANCER IS VOGUE... BUT THERE IS MUCH COMPASSION FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE IT!
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE PUPLIC START BEING EDUCATED ON THIS DISORDER. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE KINDNESS AND COMPASSION FOR THIS DISEASE! "
