MONTROSE — Erma Josephine Salaz, age 70, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2009.  After her courageous battle with cancer, she left peacefully with her family at her bedside. Erma was born March 23, 1939 to Gualalupe and Julia (Andrade) Alvarado in Montrose, Colo. She spent her childhood, received her education and raised her family in Montrose. Erma married Jimmie L. Salaz June 16, 1996 in Montrose. She was a member of Calvary Chapel of Montrose. Erma loved spending time with her family. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing foods for family and friends. Erma enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and boating. She was a most loving and nurturing sister, mother and grandmother. Erma leaves her imprint on all those she influenced while she fulfilled her special place in this world. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmie of Montrose; sons, Jeff Roybal and Andrew Roybal, of Montrose; daughter, Alberta Brown of Montrose; brothers, Val (Helen) Alvarado of Montrose, Rudy (Ester) Alvarado, Joe (Claurinda) Alvarado of Denver, Colo., Eddie Alvarado of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Lorrie Donner of Albuquerque, N.M., Mary (Sam) Pacheco of Layton Utah, Molly (Rick) Trujillo of Pueblo, Colo., Margaret (Ben) Rodarte of Montrose, Colo., Helen Tessier of San Jose, Calif., Carol (Les) Jonas of Kearns, Utah; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Erma was preceded in death by her parents, Lupe and Julia Alvarado; brothers, James Alvarado, Max Alvarado; sister, Christina Alvarado.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, July 10, 2009, at 10 a.m., at Calvary Chapel of Montrose. Burial will follow the service at Valley Lawns Cemetery in Montrose.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, in memory of Erma Salaz, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO, 81402 or The San Juan Cancer Center, in memory of Erma Salaz,  600 S. 5th St., Montrose, CO 81401.
