MRD director takes hands-on approach

MONTROSE  — New Montrose Recreation District Executive Director Judy Snedeker has a month under her belt, but she’s still on the go, learning all the ends and outs of her new position.

“I started at the busy time of year,” she said. “But it’s allowed me to see the district at work and the staff in action.”

Snedeker is not spending a lot of time at her desk, which is located in the new office space in the district’s “phase 1” addition. Instead, she is out in the field, getting to know her staff, MRD patrons and community entities that play important roles in moving the district forward.

“I’m trying to pull the pieces together so we are all working in the same direction,” she said.

So far, Snedeker has met with about three quarters of the staff. The district has 16 full-time positions and about 150 part-time workers, including umpires, pool staff and activity instructors. Snedeker is not just introducing herself to her staff — that is not her managerial style.
