Montrose community members named ‘Extraordinary Citizens’ By Mallory GeorgeDaily Press Writer MONTROSE — The Montrose County Commissioners named five Montrose notables “extraordinary citizens” Monday. “This is the first time we’ve recognized extraordinary community service,” said Montrose County Public Affairs Director Ana Mostaccero about the first-annual award ceremony. The five award winners played a significant part in the community during the last year. Randy Havens was named an extraordinary citizen for his role in organizing the Vietnam Moving Wall, which visited Montrose May 14-18 and allowed people to pay tribute to Vietnam veterans. The rest of the Moving Wall Committee was also recognized. Gary and Nancy Johnston were recognized for their involvement in bringing the Vietnam Moving Wall to Montrose as well. Linda Dukart, team captain for Team City Market, was recognized along with her whole team for raising more than $10,000 for the American Cancer Society. Jeremy Trujillo, a now-10-year-old cancer survivor and honorary chairman for Relay For Life, was the final award recipient. County staff and community members may nominate individuals to receive the recognition by contacting Ana Mostaccero at 252-4517 or pr@montrosecounty.net. ——— For the full story, see today's print edition.
