Hit-run suspect nabbed in Montrose By StaffMONTROSE — A Texas man wanted in a Gunnison hit-and-run case was apprehended Tuesday in Montrose. Thomas Calvin Turner, 21, of Midland, Texas, was picked up by the Montrose County Sheriff's Office on East Main, then turned over to Gunnison County. He's accused of running over a 23-year-old man near the intersections of State Highway 92 and U.S. Highway 50 in Gunnison County earlier Tuesday. The crash, according to the Gunnison County Sheriff's Office, caused multiple injuries severe enough that the victim had to be airlifted to Montrose Memorial Hospital for treatment. His name was not immediately released, but the Gunnison undersheriff said in a news release that the man was expected to make a full recovery. According to MCSO spokeswoman Bobbie McCoid, Gunnison County authorities aired a "be on the lookout" report for Turner. The BOLO requested any agency that might encounter the suspect vehicle hold its occupants for Gunnison County. A Montrose County deputy noticed the vehicle, a full-sized Dodge pick-up with a shattered windshield, in the 69000 block of Highway 50 later Tuesday. He was able to pull over the vehicle on East Main, and held Turner and his passenger until the GCSO could question them. Turner was then arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and vehicular assault. According to the GSCO, bond was $60,000. The GSCO could not be reached Wednesday for further information about the particulars of the crash. |
