MONTROSE — Kenneth Jackson, accused of lunging toward a Montrose Police officer with a knife last summer, tendered a guilty plea Wednesday to two counts of felony menacing.

Jackson was 17 last July 21, when he was found lurking inside a Montrose business. Officers Gio Mendoza and Lenny Abeyta had responded to the business after a burglary alarm went off.

When they entered, Jackson leapt out at Mendoza and wounded him with a knife.

Mendoza was treated and released that same night, in time to return to the scene and negotiate Jackson's surrender.

Jackson was charged as an adult with  first-degree assault-threaten peace officer with weapon; second-degree assault on a peace officer; second-degree assault-cause injury with deadly weapon and first-degree burglary-armed with weapon.

He pleaded to the amended charges and will be sentenced Sept. 8.
