Phoebe Benziger, who, along with her husband Dr. Mike, do much for the community with with fund-raising, leadership and philanthropy, drops a note about how Saturday, July 11, is a memorial golf tournament in remembrance of Shane Hastings, a popular pharmacist in the Montrose community, who was also a father, friend, husband, brother. The Notebook loves a good plate of ‘que. Friday, the Montrose County 4-H members are hosting the barbecue feed at Friendship Hall, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Info: 249-3935. There will be door prizes, auctions and a dance as well, so says Kathi Creamer of the Lazy JB Angus Ranch.

Local music promoter Dave Bowman of Blue Sky Music Presents welcomes, “live” from Austin, Texas, The Band of Heathens. It’ll be Friday, July 24, at the Turn of the Century Saloon on Fourth Street. The Randy George Band will open at 8 p.m. Tix: $15, at Jovis Coffee or at the door.

This week, the Band of Heathens is taping an ‘Austin City Limits’ show that’ll be broadcast sometime this winter. From Austin, they come here before heading off for a national tour that starts on West Coast.

Every year, well, for 14 years now, Frank Kinion and his friends put together the Colorful Colorado Car, Truck & Rod Show, sponsored by the Black Canyon Classics Car Club. The Daily Press published a two-page flyer in Tuesday’s edition, sponsored by Abel’s Ace Hardware.

It’s three days of activities – meals together, cruises around town and to Ouray, contests, exhibits, a movie at the Star Drive-In, and more. College scholarships will be awarded.

Too, consider the therapy. Saturday, you can wander about all of those lovingly restored cars from yesterday. There are 30 different classes for cars, truck and vehicles from all vintages at the Columbine Middle School athletic fields.
