Whether you are Democrat, Republican, Independent, or “On the Fence,” you should be deeply concerned about what is happening to our country. Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, terrorists, open borders, failing economy, job losses, bail-outs, overwhelming debt, shrinking dollar value, inflation, states facing bankruptcy, and unsustainable proposed government programs are but a few of our problems. According to the Constitution it is up to “we the people” and our representatives in Washington, to find solutions. But, “we the people” are divided, confused, apathetic, and dazzled by rhetoric. Our current Washington politicians indiscriminately throw money at problems, approve legislation they haven’t read, wave olive branches at enflamed dictators and denigrate America to the world. Is this what we want from our representatives?
In February 1942 I joined the Marine Corps and for the next 25 years did what Marines do. I was a member of a team working together to uphold the freedoms we loved and to fight for a country we respected. We helped clear some islands in the Pacific and convinced Japan we were not a push-over. Result — a staunch ally! A few years later we went ashore at Pusan in Korea, made the Inchon invasion and stabilized South Korea. I served in Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Laos and the Mediterranean area. I mention this not to “beat my own drum” but, rather, to indicate that the view I present here about my country is not a cursory one. To the contrary, it is a view developed over the past 88 years and with “academic,” “on site,” and “first hand” participation. And yes, war is the nastiest thing man does to man! Corrupt politicians are a close second!

This is not to suggest you become a Marine. This is to encourage you to determine what “being an American” means to you. Secondly, decide whether your country and its liberties are worth saving. Know there are good and bad apples in both the Democrat and Republican parties. Get involved and vote. Vote to remove the incompetent, corrupt, and power hungry. Vote for honest, dedicated candidates willing to fight for America — and then hold them accountable.
If you want to live in a country where the overnment is expected to cater to your every need — move! Check out Canada, England, France and a few dictatorships. Pick one that suits you. Your American neighbors will probably help you pack.
