GRAND JUNCTION – Montrose’s Justin Russell took top honors in the boys’ 16-18 division of the CJGA Western Chapter Junior Championship July 6-7. Russell, a freshman to be at Adams State, carded rounds of 72 and 71 for a two-day total of one-over par 143. Russell shot a 1-over-par 72 at the Bookcliff Country Club and an even par 71 at the Tiara Rado Golf Course.
In the Girls’ 16-18 division, Grand Junction;s Loren Forney took top honors shooting rounds of 80-78—158.
With their wins, Russell and Forney qualify to play in the CJGA Tournament of Champions. The Tournament of Champions will be held at Cherry Hills Country Club Oct. 10-11.
