MONTROSE  — In an effort to portray an unified community, the city of Montrose is collaborating with other community entities to create a Web portal that could reach the top of the Google search.

If one types “Montrose” in a Google search, the city’s site is on the top of the list. Not far down the line is the Montrose Visitors and Convention Bureau, Montrose Daily Press and Chamber of Commerce. Other entities, such as Montrose Memorial Hospital or Montrose Recreation District, don’t even make the top 20.

“The basic driver behind it is marketing our community for economic development,” city public information officer David Spear said. “The community’s Web presence, or Web front door, is becoming the single most important marketing tool for a community.”

It is because of this that Montrose County and Montrose Economic Development Corporation has jumped on board, sharing the cost of development.

“Our focus is government organizations, but also organizations that work in partnership with government for community interests,” Spear said.

The city has also approached MMH, library district, MRD, VCB, school district, fire district and chamber as entities that could be included on the Web portal.
