The thing to take home is this...He(MJ) lived in his own world and died in his own world. On the other hand most of us share the world we live and die in so as to unite in the cause of life. MJ was different. "

This is America, we won our independence from the Brits a long time ago! Therefore, we are entitled to have our own punctuation rules if we want. Ever heard of the quote, "when in Rome?"
Well your wrong if you use the British rule in America. "

" HA, American grammar rules aren't as logical as the British rules in this case. While I think both are acceptable, I will use the British rule because it reads more logically. "

" I thought this was about the death of Michael Jackson, not on grammer and spelling errors. We all make them... The death of MJ is very sad but he has been looking more sick in the last year or so. I also feel for his family and his kids. I hope the kids go a good loving home! "

    " Hellena,

I'm not sure what you are disagreeing about. We are in the United States of America. Therefore, our rules of grammar apply. Whether you agree with them or not is immaterial.

And a punctuation mark outside an end quote just looks lonely and lost. "

Hellena Handbasket wrote on Jul 25, 2009 9:49 PM:

" HA, I have to disagree with you about the use of commas and quotation marks. In British style writing, the comma is placed after the end quote, and is really a bit more logical than the way we do it "American Style".

    For example, from wikipedia:

“Carefree,” in general, means “free from care or anxiety.” (American style)
"Carefree”, in general, means “free from care or anxiety”. (British style) "

That is all. Carry on. "

    " HA,

You make a very valid point. Funny that the people on here trying to shame this person (by correcting their grammar) are making grammatical errors themselves. What’s that old saying about taking a look in the mirror before judging others? Hey, that was kind of a Michael Jackson song wasn’t it!? “Man in the Mirror!”

“If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, and then make a change.”

    Eerily priceless! "

“HA,” your little sarcasm-dripping post just put a big smile on my face. Thanks! "

    " happyinMontrose,

You’re correct! People also need to learn that “punctuation marks,” when used inside “quotation marks,” always go inside the end quote (with very limited exception, of which none apply to your post). "
