OLATHE — Alta Imogene Spencer Smith passed away at Colorow Care Center on Aug. 8, 2009. She was 90 years old. Imogene was born near Parker, Kan., on Dec. 7, 1918 to R. Earl Spencer and Grace Mae Nolte Spencer. She spent her childhood around Parker and Greeley, Kan., and she graduated from Parker High School. She married Myron (Barney) D. Smith on Dec. 24, 1937. They resided in Deerfield, Kan. until they relocated to the Montrose area in 1957. Barney and Imogene have two children, Alta Marie Smith Novotny (husband George L. Novotny, Sr.) of Olathe, Colo., and Warren Lee Smith (wife Ada Marie Smith), of Longmont, Colo. She will be dearly missed by us all.

Imogene worked at the Valley Manor Care Center as a dietician for many years. After retiring, she worked at many local restaurants as a part time cook. She always wanted to be busy and enjoyed all the interesting people she worked with over the years. She loved to cook for family, too. She loved having everyone come to her house to share a birthday or holiday. She was a great seamstress, mending for the whole family and was an avid reader of current events.  She was an active member of the Olathe United Methodist Church. Imogene loved to see and hear about her six grandchildren, Rhonda Novotny Smith, Bernadette Novotny Quinones, George L. Novotny, Jr., Steffani Smith Besch, Darren Smith and Mike Smith. Imogene also has 11 dearly loved great-grandchildren, Nicole, Matt, Rachel, Ben, Zach, Tyler, Derek, Tyson, Taylin, Megan and Riley. Imogene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, and her brothers, Roy and Bob Spencer.

" I recently had the pleasure of working with Alta during a short time at Colorow. What a sweet, sweet woman she was! I would have loved to have known her throughout her life, and have enjoyed reading more about her. "
