MONTROSE  — Fires around Durango billowed smoke into the valley and even the streets of Montrose over the weekend. Though smoke may return, the fires are not expected to grow much larger, according to the Durango Interagency Fire Dispatch.

The heavy smoke that blanketed most of Southern Colorado was from the Narraguinnep Fire, 12 miles southeast of Dove Creek, along with several others.

“We’ve got it 25 percent contained and I think (that number) will go up significantly today,” said fire information officer Pam Wilson on Monday.
