The Montrose County Planning Commission previously recommended approving Energy Fuels’ special use permit, which would allow the company to site its Piñon Ridge Mill in an area zoned for agriculture, 12 miles from Nucla.
Building and operating the uranium- and vanadium-processing mill will require state licensing and approval — a separate process in which Energy Fuels will have to satisfy numerous requirements and regulations.

“I think we all agree this requires serious due diligence,” Commissioner Gary Ellis said. “We know we need time to work through this very, very carefully.”
White said a public hearing has been tentatively slated for Montrose on Sept. 9 at Friendship Hall.
Tonight’s hearing is at 5:30 and will be held at Nucla High School.
