MONTROSE  ” As students crowd into their schools, sharing water fountains, bathrooms and computers, the school district is watching closely and encouraging preventative measures to ensure that the swine flu is not in attendance.

“We are basically treating H1N1 as a regular flu season,” said Barbara Hunt, Montrose County School District Re-1J risk manager  ” a recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The district is working very closely with Montrose County Health and Human Services in setting up a reporting plan. According to the plan, school secretaries are reporting to Hunt any student or staff cases of flu-like symptoms, which include upper respiratory problems and 100-plus temperature. MCHHS, along with the district, will track the cases and watch for trends. If serious trends are found, the two entities can work together to close a school if necessary.

“The CDC doesn’t recommend closing schools unless there is a large number (H1N1 cases),” Hunt said.

The district has distributed posters to all the school about proper coughing and hand washing etiquette. A video is also available to schools and teachers are encouraged to teach about proper hygiene.

Hand sanitizer is available, Hunt said, however, it is only encouraged before certain uses, such as in the computer lab. This is because overloading on hand sanitizer can build up an immunity, she said.

“If parents can also keep a good eye on their kids and keep them home if they are ill,” Hunt said. “I know it is kind of hard on them (the parents) sometimes, but please, stay home if you are sick.”

The district has contingency plans in place if a student has to miss several days of school, so that the student can still keep up with the rest of the classroom.

CDC guidelines recommend that people who have influenza-like illness remain home until 24 hours after resolution of the fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.

I dont beleive that ADD or Autisim was created from tests and medicines, that would be about the same as saying cancer only came about after chemo. Just because there is a name for it doesnt change anything, before they were just labeled as mentally retarded. No parent wants something to be wrong with their child. "

    " ProVac,

Wow, could you be any more condescending or rude? Just because someone doesn't share the same view as you is no reason to insult them. And I’ll tell you from experience, what they are saying is kind of true. The level of “Autism” only rose once new medications (and then tests to go with the medication) came about. Just like with ADD. Funny how NOBODY had ADD until medication (and the tests) were created! So did ADD really exist… or did the medication cause the need for it to exist? "

    PDD-NOS wrote on Aug 21, 2009 9:04 AM:

    " ProVac,

Sorry, dear, but PDD-NOS (AKA: Atypical Autism) is nothing but a made-up catchall category for people who may show some sign of Autism, but not enough to categorize them. EVERYBODY shows some signs of Autism! EVERYONE! There is a reason specialists call PDD-NOS: “ATYPICAL Autism.” Because it is NOT really Autism per se; but a great way to still give the Autism title the parent so desperately wants for their child (along with the medication and sympathy badge). I bet, dear, you proudly wear your sympathy badge everywhere you go! "

    " ProVac,

Thanks for the insult, so adult of you! I never said anything about 2 year olds. Further, I very clearly stated that Autism does exist. My point is in regards to the explosion of teenagers that are just now being diagnosed with “Autism” (oddly enough at the exact same time medication for it became available). But what do I know; I’m just an “idiot.” An “idiot” that deals with the over-diagnosed and over-medicated kids this society throws away every time a new medication or malady comes along. "

" "HA" is right. I worked in the medical field and have seen the "levels" of Autism grow over the years. We now have one typically called PDD-NOS that’s for kids that have trouble communicating or expressing their emotions (like almost every kid known to man). And yes, anyone who took the simple test our office used scored as Autistic (PDD-NOS). That is not to say REAL AUTISM is not out there! It is! But the vast majority of the kids who are now diagnosed with “PDD-NOS,” don’t have real Autism! "

" HA, autism occurs during early development, and an adult themselves doesn't take a test to diagnose themselves. Do you actually remember what your development was at age 2 or age 4? Also, it has been shown in MRI/brain scans that the brain in someone with autism is different than in others. Many people with autism are highly intelligent. My kids don't take meds for autism. I have homeschooled them for 12 years, and they are successful, high functioning citizens. "

ProVac wrote on Aug 20, 2009 7:31 AM:

    " Ha

You are the idiot here, Austism has nothing to do with bad behavior. I really dont see where a 2 year old who has the inability to make eye contact, talk and interact with people is the result of bad behavior and parents not wanting to parent and want their child on drugs. I dont see a lazy parent wanting to take their child to speical child care and therapists several times a week. "

HA wrote on Aug 19, 2009 7:29 PM:

    " RUKIDDING,

The ignorant one is the one who didn't read clearly. Autism is not the result of poor parenting. Autism is a blanket condition (anyone who tests for oddly enough is deemed Autistic) that parents use to dope their kids and explain away their bad behavior. It’s the new ADD and is going to quickly become out of vogue since Bipolar is now all the rage with inept parents.

Work in the medical field for a day and you will learn what a scam most cases (not all mind you) of "Autism" are. "

Lets kill millions instead of saving millions for the sake of the possible side effect. But hey at least it would all be natural. "

Im not knocking anyone here please dont take it that way, it is just the truth. "

" I've conducted my own study; it proves Autism has no link to any vaccine! The results proved, beyond a shadow of doubt, that Autism is caused by inept parents that prefer to be their kid’s friend and offer no guidance, discipline or structure. And then the “friend” (biological agent) wonders why their kid is so lost and misbehaved. So, the “friend” assumes there must be something wrong with the child and puts them on drugs. THAT is why you have seen such an increase in so-called Autism! "

HA wrote on Aug 14, 2009 3:43 PM:

    " "to provac,"

Have you ever considered that the rate of Autism is lower in the Amish community because they actually PARENT their children and don’t look to pharmaceutical companies to do it for them?

Let's stop playing games with the term "Autism." ANYONE who takes an Autism test turns out to be Autistic! ANYONE! My whole class took one, we were all graded as Autistic (and this was in a college class). That’s why a link is impossible to prove (if everyone has it; what caused it… or does it even really exist). "

" Does everyone realize that a 6 ounce can of tuna fish contains 17 micrograms of mercury?

Several of the brands of regular flu shots contain 25 micrograms, you can request thimerasol free ones.

So two small cans of tuna and you have more mercury than the regular flu shot.

Many people including pregnant women eat tuna as well as many other fish containing mercury, they also feed these fish to their young children thinking it is a healthy food, with this in mind, maybe not. "

I think the dramitic decline and in some cases the wipe out of dangerous viruses has proven that they work. Personally I would rather have an autistic child than a dead one or severlly disabled one from polio or one dead from complications of the flu, my child has asthma, any viral infection for him is a nightmare and potentially life threatning. The CDC says they are using this same mercury based additive in some of the H1N1 vaccine. The CDC isn't some "groups online who can add their 2 cents from whatever thoughts pop into their head." Some vaccines actually have a warning that the side effects of said vaccine can be worse, than the disease itself. Wake up people. "

Also the CDC hasnt found any proven link with Thimerasol and Austism, get informed from you pediatrican and not from groups online who can add their 2 cents from whatever thoughts pop into their head. I several friends who have autisic children and none of them beleive that vaccines are to blame after their research. "
