The Pirates hope to build off the success from last year where they finished 14-0, and won the Class 2A state championship game in overtime, 22-21 against Erie.
“The kids are working hard so far this summer and have put in a lot of extra time, especially this week for our mini-camp,” OHS head coach Ryan Corn said. “They’ve just been working on the things that they need to do to be successful.”

Despite losing quite a few seniors who were major contributors and defensive coordinator Ben Johnson, coach Corn still believes his team is primed for another run at the state title.
“It’s the kids that really make the coaches look good,” Corn told the Daily Press. “As long as were working the players really hard every time and their working hard, good things are going to happen.”
As for losing quite a few players to graduation, coach Corn believes that there’re a good group of young players coming up through the system.
“Our program only lost one game last year and that was at our freshman level. We have a varsity team that knows how to win, a freshman team that knows how to win and all those guys are coming to camp with a competitive attitude.”
The Pirates begin organized practice starting Monday, where all players will be required to wear helmets, with full pad practices beginning Wednesday.
OHS will open their season at home on Sept. 4 against Eagle Valley.
