MONTROSE — Dallas Truman ‘Nick’ Nichols, age 60, of Montrose, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 at V.A. Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colo.

Nick was born Jan. 21, 1949 to Charles F. and Virginia (Richardson) Nichols in Wheatland, Wyo. He spent his childhood and graduated from high school in Cheyenne, Wyo. Nick went on to college in Casper, Wyo.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Underhill). Nick was previously married to Janetta Prescott for 20 yrs.

Nick was owner of a car dealership for over 20 years in Cheyenne, WY. and also an engineer for the Cheyenne Fire Department for seven years.

He moved to Montrose, Colo. five years ago. Upon moving to Montrose he built and operated Black Canyon Storage, building a home and residing there for two years prior to his death. Nick was a member of Crossroads Victory Worship Center in Montrose.

He served his country in the United States Navy in Vietnam for four years then the Wyoming Air Guard in Cheyenne for 14 years. Nick enjoyed singing with the SongBirds and the Barbershoppers, and church activities. He loved spending time on vehicles, repairing, restoring and buying and selling. Nick and Margaret enjoyed traveling together. He loved to spend time playing with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Montrose; his parents, Charles and Virginia Nichols of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sons, Brian T. Nichols and wife, Melanie of Cheyenne, Rod A. Nichols and wife, Candace of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepdaughter, Heather Jones and husband Troey of Salem, Ore., stepsons, Joshua Shipman and wife Carrie of Denver, Timothy Shipman and wife Karyn of Montrose; brother, Ray Nichols and wife Terri of Montrose; and 19 grandchildren. Nick was preceded in death by his brother, Allen Nichols of Cheyenne.

A memorial service and military honors in celebration of Dallas’ life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Crossroads Victory Worship Center on Hillcrest and Miami in Montrose. The service will conclude at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colo.

    " I think it is important to mention that Nick suffered for a very long time with diabetes and parkensons. Lets remember that research is continual on both of these, and if possible in his honor to make a donation.

    As a past member of this family I pray for comfort to those he left behind. "
