OLATHE — Richard G. “Dick” Rottinghaus passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 12, 2009, at The Delta County Memorial Hospital. Dick was born Jan. 5, 1923 to Jacob and Marie (Lorson) Rottinghaus in Seneca, Kan. He spent some of his childhood there but also lived in Idaho, Wyoming and Iowa then moved to Colorado with his family where he made his home. In 1947 Dick met Rita Kerrigan in Montrose where they were members of a church group. They were married Feb. 22, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Montrose and moved to Olathe soon after where they made their home until Dick’s time of death. They were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and prior members of Our Lady of Fatima in Olathe years ago. Dick loved the great outdoors and his old tractors. Farming was his love and his life. “Retirement” was just a word to Dick. He remained active in the family farming operation growing corn, beans, alfalfa and livestock into his 80’s.  His family and friends remarked how he and Mother Nature worked together and he could grow just about anything.  Dick was honored for growing 200 Bushel Corn in 1985.

Dick’s family was his pride and joy; family get-togethers, celebrations, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the special stories will never be forgotten.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
