MONTROSE — Donna R. Nichols, age 79, of Montrose, passed away Thursday evening, Sept. 10, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colo.  Donna was born April 25, 1930 to George and Arvilla (Pearce) Stokes at Denver, Colo. Her childhood was spent in Cripple Creek, Colo. Following high school, Donna enjoyed working as a barber and stylist for many years. She was known as a receptionist for many years in the Montrose area. She married H. Edwin Nichols on Dec. 24, 1974 at Denver, Colo., and he preceded her in death in 1989. Donna moved from Farmington, N.M. to Montrose in October 2000 where she made her home until her time of death.

She was a member of Eastern Star, and a Rainbow Mom.

Surviving family members include her two children, Sharon (Curtis) Grishow of Montrose, Ed (Gloria) Cox of Grand Junction, Colo; two grandchildren, Brice (Michelle) Turuc and Shayla Kraft; two great-grandchildren, Madison Turuc and Kaylee Kraft. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and one brother. At Donna’s request, cremation has taken place and a graveside service in celebration of Donna’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at Cedar Cemetery in Montrose. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, in memory of Donna Nichols, P. O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, 802 E. Main St., Montrose, CO 81401 (970) 249-2121.
