MONTROSE — Managing Editor Bill Swaim has resigned, it was announced today by publisher Stephen Woody. Swaim has been with the Daily Press for almost 10 years, first as sports editor and then as managing editor.

Swaim and his family will relocate near the Tulsa area where he will be the executive editor for 12 non-daily newspapers.

“It’s a good deal for Bill, and I’m honored to have been associated with him for the last 10 years,” Woody said. “Under Bill’s direction, the Daily Press received numerous awards for its news reporting and enterprise journalism from a variety of state and national journalism associations, which also included honors for investigative reporting, special sections and general excellence. We’ve experienced much innovation and change and Bill’s been an essential part of it.”

While at the Daily Press, Swaim has been recognized for his reporting, photography, column and editorial writing, and page design by the Colorado Press Association and the Associated Press.

Swaim, along with Chris Kennedy and Phil Ashley, helped launch the live webcasts of local football games on the Daily Press Web site, www.montrosepress.com.

Swaim is from Fremont, Neb. He and his wife, Carrie Ann, have three children. They have been active in local youth sports, Scouting, and their church.

Woody said a recruitment search for a successor is underway.
