McInnis stopped in Montrose as part of his statewide campaign tour Tuesday. He told an enthusiastic audience that party unity would be key to recapturing the governorship from Democrats. He also criticized the current leadership for having alienated the energy industry and the military, both of which provide thousands of jobs in Colorado.
“Energy is a big deal. These jobs are important to us,” McInnis said.

“Is that the kind of leadership we want?” McInnis said. “I’m not sure he understands the consequences.”
He said a seasoned governor understands priorities and that priorities should not include driving away the military and the energy industry.
Ritter spokesman Evan Dreyer told the Denver Post earlier Tuesday that unemployment is 2.5 percentage points below the national level and that Colorado is considered a top state for business.
McInnis also said Ritter’s decision to close a skilled nursing facility in Grand Junction was mystifying, because the clients there are a clear example of people truly in need.
He urged the party faithful to support him through campaigning efforts and and contributions.
“We are fully committed, not only to winning, but to making Colorado so it really is about Colorado,” he said.
McInnis also highlighted his accomplishments as a state representative and U.S. congressman, saying that all of his opponents combined cannot match his experience.
McInnis and two others, state Rep. Josh Penry and businessman Dan Maes, are seeking the Republican party’s nod to challenge Ritter.
