One day were we visiting a town in the South Island of New Zealand, called Te Anau. Te Anau is located in Fjordland, Southern NZ. Te Anau is on Lake Te Anau and is spectacular in everyway. The lake, inflowing,  outflowing streams and rivers are loaded with wild trout, 4 to 10 lbs., very wild and very challenging to catch, fly fishing only.

We were camped out. One Saturday morning  proceded directly to pub, The Fjordland Public Bar, had to wait till 10am for them to open. We were the 1st ones in and within 1 hr the place was packed with South Islanders, who spoke english but almost impossible to understand what they were saying. We signed up for a pool game, basic 8 ball, these Kiwis are excellant pool players. My friend racked em up and the winner broke and sunk 3 balls till it was our turn. My 1st shot missed and the 8 ball was sunk. All of a sudden the place went wild, bells were ringing, Kiwis all excited, yelling, laughing jumping up and down. One grabbed the rack and put all the pool balls in it and it turned out all of our soild balls still were on table. We looked at each other and said hellout, tried to escape. Next thing we knew we were being  manhandled across street and were forced to jump into Lake Te Anau by about a dozen rugby players feeling their beer. We returned to pub to a rousing ovation from the crowd who witnesed the whole episode all were  laughing and carrying on. We found out we did whats called a Tin Hat, We pot  the  8 ball with all our balls on table. We figured out theywere shouting.... TinHat !!!Tin Hat!!! down with your trousers, down with you trousers or into the lake with the lot of ya!! Rules are rules. We spent the rest of the day at the pub, they bought all our beer, and returned many times and they still remembered those crazy yanks.. Good Times, Good People... POCM
