GRAND JUNCTION — Charles Homer (Charlie) Wallen, Jr. was born Nov. 12, 1926 in Oak Park, Ill. He died at St. Mary’s Hospital on Oct. 14, 2009. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the U. S. Navy from 1943 until his retirement in 1966. He married Billie L. (Honeycutt) Partin on April 9, 1966. They moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1966 and lived there until 1978 when they moved to Montrose, Colo. While living in Alaska, Charlie worked for the N.A.S.A. satellite tracking site. Shortly after moving to Montrose, Charlie began his love of genealogy. This interest stayed with him for the rest of his life. Family members owe him a debt of gratitude for his long hours spent in research and data recording. The Wallens moved to Grand Junction in 1993. Charlie’s beloved wife Billie passed away on Oct. 4, 1998. Charlie spent the last years of his life at Comfort Care. He loved to cook and share recipes. The creative flair that he had for this hobby was a great joy for him. He never failed to amuse all who would listen with many stories of his life adventures and places he had lived.

Survivors include his four children: Barbara Redenz of Hertford, N.C., Jo Ann Leek of Moosic, Pa., Dee Wallen of Chesapeake, Va., Charles H. Wallen III of Elizabeth City, N.C. Two step-children also survive: Sheila VanWormer of Gassville, Ark., and Michael Partin of Brighton, Tenn. Other survivors include one sister, Betty Putnam of Washington, Ind. as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family members. A sister, Barbara Brown, and brother, James Wallen, preceded him in death.

Thank you to the staff of Comfort Care and St. Mary’s Hospital for taking such good care of Charlie. Billie and Charlie were very blessed to have the love and friendship of Jeff and Trish Vagneur and Miles and Patsy LaHue.
