As part of an international literacy and community building activity called, "Flat Stanley Project," Northside fourth-grade teacher Andrew Steck had his students create paper cutouts of themselves that they could fold and mail to someone else. In the envelope is a letter explaining the project and a questionnaire to be filled out about the recipient's community. The questionnaire and "Flat Stanley" is then mailed back to the sender.
While many students in Steck's class sent their Flat Stanley to friends and relatives, Montoya decided to send hers to President Obama.
