Re: Ongoing debate about health-care reform
About a week ago I received an email letter from U.S. Senator Mark Udall. In his letter he assured the great unwashed that he had been, and will be, “fighting” for us regarding some type of government-run health care. He went on to assure us that no matter what the government health care bill finally becomes, and no matter how much it costs, it would not “add a dime” to the national debt or the deficit. The sad, but true, fact is that, as a body of voters and taxpayers, we not only believe half-truths and lies from our elected representative, we embrace them. We accept lies from our representatives that we would never believe if presented to us by our friends or family. What is it about us? Let’s see, would I rather believe non-partisan, independent studies that tell us that any form of government run health care will cost trillions of dollars, ration health care, cause doctors to leave the profession, or, would I rather believe an oily politician who’s objective in life is to get reelected? I choose the former. A buzz word these days is “sustainability.” Well, a government-run health care program is not sustainable. They know it and we know it. Why do we continue to accept lies from our employees. Yes, that’s what they are, our employees and the sooner we realize that, the better off we’ll be. In fact, they don’t generate a dime of income or profit, they live from the largess of the taxpayer dollar. Remember, when it was time for town hall meetings and for the elected representatives to face the voters, Senators Udall and Bennet and Rep. Salazar were nowhere to be found. Let’s no longer be fooled by snake oil salesmen and saleswomen, slapping us on the back with one hand while, with the other, picking our pockets and taking away our fundamental right as citizens of, what is, a great nation.
