Re: Firefighters pay increase, Daily Press, Oct. 17
The gall and greed of the Montrose Fire District Board of Directors (except Jim Haugsness) and members of our fire department are beyond belief. While all of us are seeing our home values plummet 10 to 20 percent or more; while people are losing their jobs and homes and with no jobs to be found; while us seniors are being told that our Social Security increases are in a permanent freeze and how the Democrats are about to relieve us of our medical benefits, our arrogant and greedy fire department members are receiving a totally unwarranted and undeserved pay increase.

I remember no mention of a perpetual annual pay increase for a mill-levy referendum to build that new fire station in 2006. Giving pay increases to people who are already overpaid does nothing to improve our fire district. Therefore, I feel the vote approved tax increase of 2006 can be rescinded by a new vote on a new ballot issue, based upon a fraudulent and deceptive ballot proposal then. I suggest all of us taxpayers educate these arrogant people and do just that.
I don’t know about the rest of you Montrose taxpayers, but I have had a “gutful” of two-bit con artists trying to relieve me of the few dollars I have left to survive on. Obama and his bunch are enough to contend with.
I applaud fire district director Haugsness for his effort in attempting to do the right thing.
