Overheard at the Fox Theatre the other night as they prepare for their 80-year anniversary celebration this weekend:

Man, oh, man; there’s some football tonight. Friday night lights. Take a sweater.
• The Olathe Pirates, the defending state champions and unbeaten (8-0) this year, hosts the Basalt Pirates. Due to weather, the Daily Press will not be videocasting/live stream onto its Web site.
• Three-time SWL champion Montrose High School, 7-1 on the season, will be in Grand Junction taking on the GJHS Tigers.
• There’s a resurrection over at Delta High School. The Panthers are 6-2 on the season and will host the Cortez Panthers, a Panther-alapalooza.
Good football this year, all around the Uncompahgre Valley.

Rumormongering…….
• A man called into our “tips” line, concerned, that we didn’t have the story about Halliburton relocating some 240 jobs from Grand Junction. We checked it out with Halliburton and other locals who would be in the know; no such luck.
• Another rumor had Target closing at the end of the year. Matt Miles, the landlord/developer over at River’s Landing, said no. The Daily Press also called Target office, they, too, said no.

Darlene Fullerton, RN and certified massage therapist, gives the Notebook the skinny on a special lunch event next Thursday. Valley Manor Care Center and the Volunteers of America are hosting a “reach out” event at the Holiday Inn Express at 12 noon.
The residents at Valley Manor have a “wish list”: a flat-screen TV for the main dining room, a massage table, a popcorn machine, CD players so they can listen to music or books in their rooms and so forth.
Darlene adds that while it’s a benefit function, and the community is inundated with fundraising at times, this is also a meet-and-greet opportunity to familiarize people with Valley Manor and VOA. Darlene has been doing massage therapy at Valley Manor for more than a year, including a pain management program.

I was in this space going to wish the MHS cross country team good luck at the state meet tomorrow in Fort Collins. But, as we know, much has been cancelled across Colorado due to the weather. The Front Range really got pounded with the white stuff. Cross country coach Brian Simpson says the state meet has been rescheduled for Nov. 7. Currerntly, Fossil Ridge High School is under a blanket of 18 inches of snow and Poudre schools were closed Thursday and today.
