“Our first goal this weekend is to go 2-0 in pool play and get that No. 1 seed for the semifinals,” Forrest said. “We don’t want to be that No. 2 seed and have to face their No. 1, which I imagine will be (13-3) Mullen.”
Forrest knows that districts, despite being on their home court, isn’t going to be easy and that she’s going to rely heavily on her four seniors who have been in these pressure situations since they were sophomores.
“We have to play our best volleyball of the season this weekend,” she said. “I feel confident that if we play well, we will advance.”
As far as the competition this weekend, Forrest says that Mullen will present the biggest challenge, while Palisade will also be a scrappy team for her squad.
“Mullen is defiantly the state favorite to win the state championship this year,” Forrest said. “It’s quite a deal to have them in our district tournament this weekend.”
As for the four seniors, this will be their last shot at competing for a state title and Forrest said that their leadership and experience will help provide her team with valuable assets.
Senior Kelsie Dardis expects the team to be ready to compete and knows that playing flawless volleyball can only help their chances to advance to regionals.
“I expect us to play hard and all out,” Dardis said. “We defiantly know there is going to be some tough competition this weekend with Mullen, but I know that this team can pull through and keep our season going.”
The Olathe Lady Pirates head to Carbondale this weekend for their Class 2A district tournament. Olathe is seeded No. 3 and will square off with Classical Academy beginning at 10 a.m.
