"Folks are frightened by bats because they think they are vampires," Bureau of Land Management bat specialist Missy Siders said. "Some people are frightened because they don't understand. Really, bats are our friends, especially the insect-eating bats. They eat a humongous amount of mosquitoes."
The brown bat, for instance, noshes on so many mosquitoes a day, that its consumption is roughly analogous to a 10-year-old eating 250 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
