MONTROSE - Law enforcement agencies across the state, which includes Montrose, are increasing DUI enforcement over the Halloween weekend, which began at 6 p.m. Friday night, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

"With Halloween on a Saturday this year, we expect that a lot of adult trick-or-treaters will be celebrating, and alcohol may very well be involved," said Col. James Wolfinbarger, chief of the Colorado State Patrol. "We want people to have fun, but be smart and stay safe. There's no reason for Coloradans to trade in their Halloween costume for a jail suit, but if they choose to drink and drive, they will do just that."

In addition to jail time, drivers arrested for DUI face stiff fines, court costs and other fees that could cost more than $10,000. Even first-time offenders can lose their driver's license and have an ignition interlock device on their vehicle for up to two years, according to a news release.
