After eight successful years of bringing some of the best in bluegrass music to Montrose, Pickin’ at the Pavilion announces that 2009 was the last year of the festival. Pickin’ at the Pavilion was originally organized to raise funds for a Montrose High School Choir trip to Carnegie Hall. Over the years, festival proceeds have also supported the Montrose High School Band and have provided scholarships for youth music activities, as well as providing a fund-raising venue for various community non-profits.

One of the highlights of the festival was educational outreach program, that included providing “Discover Bluegrass: Exploring American Roots Music” DVDs to local schools in addition to providing concerts and educational programs at Montrose schools prior to the festival. These concerts provided an opportunity for students visit with award-winning, professional musicians, and to learn about the instruments, the music and the people involved in bluegrass.

The Pickin’ at the Pavilion committee would like to thank the Montrose community, the bluegrass community, and the many sponsors who helped to make the festival such a great success. We look forward to continued growth in the Montrose music scene.
