Body found on Red Mountain Pass STAFF REPORTOURAY — The Colorado State Patrol and other agencies are investigating a fatal crash on Red Mountain Pass. Details are sketchy, but Ouray County Sheriff Dominic "Junior" Mattivi confirmed a vehicle was found over the side of Red Mountain Pass at approximately mile marker 90 and a body was inside. State trooper Darel Reed said the vehicle was a "type of SUV" but would not confirm the make or model. He said the vehicle was located in a ravine and could not confirm other details. Reed said at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Red Mountain Pass was closed so officials on the scene could assist in the investigation. It was to reopen early Friday morning. Mattivi said the discovery was made at around noon Thursday. The body was removed by Ouray Mountain Rescue and cause of death and identification have not released, Reed said. Reed said the CSP was to meet with coroner and other agencies Friday. Further information is pending. There are fears that it could be that of missing Montrose man Thomas Boylan, 82, according to local law enforcement sources. The Daily Press will update its Web site on this story as it develops. |
