Back then, I announced from the stage of the Lander High School gym to a packed house that some lucky person had won a microwave oven. (That was a big prize in 1976.) Tuesday night, Holly Hardin won a new dishwasher from Tri-County Appliance. Back then, too, before Taste of Home Cooking Schools had all the multi-media doodads like multiple screens, it was a “home economist” running the show with interruptions by the emcee. Talk about circle of life stuff: then, I’m wearing a 1970s-ish denim suit and handing out microwaves and now, Bill’s granddaughters are helping us.
Randy Gerke has a new book, his first, ‘Outdoor Survival Guide.’ He’ll be autographing copies at Hastings from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. (So after the game, drop by. Might be a good stocking stuffer.) He and Kay Gerke have been doing wilderness programs around Montrose for 31 years. Kay is the book’s illustrator. To know more about the book, go to the Web site: www.theoutdoorsurvivalguide.com.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow (Saturday) for The Smothers Brothers Show Feb. 1 (7:30 p.m.) at the Montrose Pavilion. (Feb. 2, at the Avalon Theatre in Grand Junction.) The Notebook loves a good plate of Thai. The new Thai restaurant, Asii, located in “midtown” Montrose, serves up some tasty Thai, fersure. Recommended.
Controlled burn alert! Put another birthday candle on the cake tomorrow for insurance whiz and full-time golfer, Greg Bollig.
